Dr. Jeannie Gazzaniga-Moloo is an educator, advocate, and writer with a passion for improving lives through food, nutrition, and the power of resilience. With a PhD in Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health, Master’s in Human Nutrition, and over 30 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian, she educates college students at California State University, Sacramento, on the critical intersections of food, health, and science.
Her professional work is profoundly shaped by her personal journey: 12 years as a caregiver for her physician husband during his struggle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Their family’s cancer story began at a particularly vulnerable time—just three weeks before the birth of their third child, with their older children only 4 and 6 years old—offering her firsthand insight into the complex challenges family caregivers face while navigating cancer treatments and recovery. As a five-year cancer survivor herself, she brings an even deeper understanding of the physical, emotional, and nutritional needs of cancer patients and their loved ones.
Today, Dr. Gazzaniga-Moloo combines her professional expertise and personal experiences to support cancer patients and their families. She is committed to empowering others through proper nutrition and empathetic care, advocating for the crucial role food plays in recovery and resilience. Through her Substack newsletter, A Full Plate, she shares insights on food, nutrition, and cancer caregiving, building a community of support and understanding for those facing similar challenges and for those supporting the caregiver in their life.
In her role as Nutrition Chair for the Cultivate program, Dr. Gazzaniga-Moloo (or Jeannie) brings her unique perspective as both a caregiver and survivor to empower individuals and families to heal and thrive. She combines evidence-based nutrition expertise with compassionate support to help create meaningful, sustainable strategies for well-being. When not teaching, writing, or working on the program, she enjoys photography and cherishes time spent with her three adult children.
